Hello everyone! Welcome to the 245th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we can keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Hyperion has installed a brand-new cargo transportation system that makes shipping goods across the station a breeze. Idyllic is knee-deep in merging the dogfight with the Capital Update branch, and is making great progress. Back in August, we made a branch copy of the Dogfight, to begin to fully devote our efforts to bringing the Capital Update to life. At that point, we had been working on Capital mechanics for quite a while, but at that point they became too much to handle while keeping the Dogfight playable. This branch held everything we've added and changed, from mechanics to menus to maps. During this time, changes were also made to the original Dogfight, that need to be merged back in. Changes to code, like radar and and filters, new objects, like all the new faction ships, new maps, and outpost modules, have to be synced. So far, all of the physical assets have been merged, by far the easier task. Merging the code will be a more difficult, but not impossible task. We have plans for a custom versioning system to make the task easier in the future, but hopefully this task will only be necessary with significant content updates, which the Capital Update will be the last of for the Dogfight, as the next major steps will all involve Freeroam. A versioning system will likely still be just as useful during that Phase as well. And now, for the things you can take pictures of: Hyperion Station has had a walking problem for quite some time. As more portions of the ring have opened to visitors, the distance you have to walk to visit everywhere has vastly increased. With that in mind, we have developed a cargo transportation system to quickly move cargo across the station at incredible speeds. Station management wants visitors to be aware that they are not responsible for anything besides cargo that winds up in the cargo transport tubes and may become damaged in transit. Stop by and try shipping some cargo across the station today! The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 9am and 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 343 kills, 71 with auto, 0 with beam, 19 with laser, 8 with plasma, 8 with railgun, and 237 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-2_Spirit_Kazan with 104 kills, followed by the Chariot with 68. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 125 deaths, followed by Pillarum with 117. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 222 kills and 15 deaths and a 14.8 KDR; devOmegax with 79 kills, 12 deaths and a 6.58 KDR; and IdyllicDestroyer with 27 kills, 51 deaths, and a 0.52 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Nihilos Tephra in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 89) Calexian Community Challenge Before the end of cycle 12, the community must strive to complete the following two challenges to unlock a Calexian ship for all to use. KOTH points are going well, but we've fallen behind on Outpost clears. We better get cracking on that pirate invasion if we want to complete the challenge. The challenges are: 5000 KOTH capture points, and 50 Perfect rounds of Outpost Strike. Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. Be sure to join if you have any questions about RoVerse: ROBLOX Group: https://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=2948290 Discord server: https://discord.gg/npxBGwJ Q1: Will mining power levels be a thing? A1: That could be a fun feature down the line, our first set of minerals should all be minable right away, but if we ever add unique or extremely rare materials, we could gatekeep them with mining tech. That would certainly make mining corps more valuable, if they spec all into mining and have those tech upgrades unlocked faster, it would be worth it to hire them for jobs. Q2: Will you be able to bounce people into jumpgates to kick them out of a system? A2: Though this question is nearly asking about ramming, we'll answer it anyway. Bumping into people is a very delicate process, and likely won't be successful in any sort of combat situation. But if someone goes extremely AFK, I don't see any mechanics planned that would stop you from launching them through a wormhole and into another star system, to their extreme confusion when they return. Q3: Will there be mesh deformation on ships to show collision damage or heavy explosions? A3: That could be an interesting detail to develop down the line. We will be meshing Capital ships, so the option is open to add a few bones during that process for deformation. We'll look into it. Q4: How tall can base buildings be? Can they go to space? A4: We have a concept HQ at Daedalus Rex this is the approximate size we want the biggest building to be, but we'll have finalized measurements when we're much closer to the planetary update. The HQ is supposed to be an identifying landmark for important faction bases, and thus has the most important functions built in. We started with smaller buildings about the scale of a house, but it just didn't make the base feel important enough. So having enough size is important, but not to space big. Q5: Will we be able to run people over with ground vehicles? A5: Definitely. Not everything requires shooting people to kill them, sometimes just driving at high speed into them is enough. With fighters, ramming didn't make much sense because they're on a level playing field with each other - fighter vs fighter. On the surface, a vehicle should be deadly to a person on foot, if they aren't paying attention or can't get out of the way. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server!
