Hello everyone! Welcome to the 284th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, we've been celebrating Christmas, with the community rewards from the event being distributed to those who have completed the various quests at Hyperion. These rewards will be available until January 10th, so get to delivering those gifts and brewing those drinks while the event is still on. On the development side this week, Idyllic took aim at a few bugs that have been plaguing the dogfight. First up is a small fix to spawn location selection - the original code specifically picks a spawn location from exactly 8 options in a folder in the map. No more, no less. This has caused issues a few times in the past, where a spawn location would be missing and the game would come screeching to a halt. Now, with the help of a small addition to the code, it selects a random location from any number of locations in that folder, not just 8. Also, a bit of variance has been added to the location, spreading it out from a single point. No more spawning inside someone else who just respawned! This also provides the added benefit that spawns can be dynamically added and removed while a round is active, which will be important when you can respawn on friendly capitals. Next up was a look into outpost clipping issues, where two or more modules would clip through each other during generation, causing turrets to be inside other modules and unreachable. Idyllic dove into the code, tweaked a few variables, and modified a few module hitboxes, and ran quite a few large-scale tests to make sure that there were no more issues. Last up is a patch to filter sorting, where a table was being shallow-copied and editing the list of all light fighters, for example, to include other filter selections, which led to a severe breakdown in the filtering abilities. Now that the 10 lines of code deep-copy a table, filters should be working correctly in the beta. We hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas, and we wish you a happy new year as well. See you next year! This week in the dogfight there were 42 kills, 6 with auto, 9 with beam, 5 with laser, 0 with plasma, 0 with railgun, and 22 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-1_Kazan with 22 kills, followed by the Excalibur with 19. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 25 deaths, followed by Blue_Spaceway with 15. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 22 kills and 0 deaths and a N/A KDR; wegbhap with 13 kills, 0 deaths and a N/A KDR; and EfanNatanaels with 4 kills, 0 deaths, and a N/A KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Stormfront Armaments Hercules in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots!
