Hello everyone! Welcome to the 258th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, we dove into getting the new menu systems up and running, finally released the cycle exclusive ship, and fixed a problem with the Outpost Strike gamemode. While Idyllic was on vacation, the last Dogfight Cycle ended, and unfortunately we forgot to release the new reward ship for the next cycle. Last week in the community, someone mentioned not receiving the ship they thought they unlocked, which reminded us. So now, halfway through the cycle, we're finally ready to release the next exclusive cycle reward ship. Introducing the Cosmos Novikov: The Cosmos Novikov is an old but reliable gun platform. Built by a company that has since broken up and undergone significant restructuring, this rare and elusive ship is a favorite of the seedier crowd, used to attack civilian targets and run small cargo past blockades. Invigorated with his success editing datastore code last week, Idyllic took on a fairly ambitious project this week that will certainly make their life easier in the future. By now, everyone who reads our newsletters is familiar with the Community Challenge graphs that display our progress towards the next Cycle goal. Now, that graph is available in-game, and automatically updates as progress is made. While getting the menus to appear was simple, getting the datastore to save a global value proved slightly more difficult. We'll be continuing to work on getting the 'live update' portion of the function to work, since it isn't quite ready yet. And last up is a fairly minor change that we don't feel quite right calling a "bug fix" but is worth mentioning nonetheless. Since their release, the Pirate Outposts have been off-centered from where they're supposed to spawn in the maps, which has led to problems with collisions with rocks and other map items. We've now moved the starting hub over to the same place that the Military Outpost spawns, hopefully minimizing the number of collisions with major structures in the process. This week in the dogfight there were 386 kills, 89 with auto, 31 with beam, 205 with laser, 0 with plasma, 15 with railgun, and 46 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Cardinal with 225 kills, followed by the SSa3-1_Ritojin with 85. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 169 deaths, followed by The_Great_Hollow with 137. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were pigyyyyy345, with 239 kills and 4 deaths and a 59.75 KDR; FangABXY with 114 kills, 13 deaths and a 8.76 KDR; and IdyllicDestroyer with 25 kills, 9 deaths, and a 2.77 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Cosmos Novikov in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 102) Calexian Community Challenge Before the end of Cycle 15, the community must strive to complete the following two challenges to unlock a Calexian ship for all to use. The challenges are: 6000 Outpost Turrets, and 3000 Non-Torpedo kills. Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. Be sure to join if you have any questions about RoVerse: ROBLOX Group: https://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=2948290 Discord server: https://discord.gg/npxBGwJ Q1: Could we get a module that lets us jam one more gun on a ship? A1: Potentially. Depending on how our module system ends up working, we could very well be able to increase the armament stat after the fact, allowing extra guns to be mounted. Designing a ship for this might be difficult, but not impossible. Q2: Will faction members be able to join allied subfactions? A2: Certainly, if your faction allows you to. Wouldn't want to accidentally join an enemy corporation and get executed for treason. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 257th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week was focused on bug fixes, including a hanging camera after rounds end, problems with the chat menu, and another attempt at fixing gamemode pre-rolling. In the community, we discussed developing a tutorial system to make playing RoVerse as easy as possible for new players. We also have 3 new faction ships, one of which is publicly available. The Akatanan Kaminari The Akatanan Ritojin and the Akatanan Hayabusa II. Take one for a flight today! On the list of bugs that have been driving Idyllic insane, the camera in Icarus is failing to return to the hangar after a round ends. This isn't throwing any errors or anything to point to what would be causing it, so Idyllic is going through a lot of code to find out what could be causing this problem. The chat system is showing its age, having been forked from the Roblox chat 3 years ago, and the gamemode pre-roll system continues to fail to load the next gamemode and continuing to show placeholder text. This week in the dogfight there were 263 kills, 3 with auto, 0 with beam, 0 with laser, 0 with plasma, 1 with railgun, and 259 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-2_Spirit_Kazan with 184 kills, followed by the Silencer with 74. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 117 deaths, followed by Blue_Spaceway with 102. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 184 kills and 6 deaths and a 30.66 KDR; PreadaterX51 with 75 kills, 4 deaths and a 18.75 KDR; and MaxieLaurem with 3 kills, 2 deaths, and a 1.5 KDR. They have unlocked an exclusive ship in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! A1: That would be extremely hard to balance. While we've bounced around ideas of clans getting a 'budget' of credits to award to members, the incentive would be to award all of those credits each unit of time, and unbalanced towards leadership, ruining any incentives for low-rank players. Unlikely to happen, but would be really cool if we could figure out a way to make it work. Q2: What's the largest a ship could be? A2: Theoretically, the largest a ship could be is between 50,000,000 and 80,000,000 cubic studs, in the XXXL class. The primary constraint for large ships is the Roblox part size limit of 2048. You can chop a ship up to fix that, but too big and you end up with a lot more parts and a very hard ship to drive. For more information, visit the shipbuilder's guide. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 256th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic returned from his vacation and got right back to work. On the chopping block for this short week was making loadouts save between rounds - they don't do much good if they aren't saved until the next time to load into the game, or even the next time you're in the hangar. So off we went, adding a loadout key to the datastore system to save the 4 loadouts you want to save to quickly switch between rounds. No more fumbling through edit ship and swapping missiles for lasers before the 30 second intermission timer reaches zero. Most shockingly, the code worked correctly on the first testing attempt, nearly knocking Idyllic straight out of his chair. With a codebase this complex, that never happens. This week in the dogfight there were 113 kills, 4 with auto, 23 with beam, 10 with laser, 0 with plasma, 0 with railgun, and 76 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-2_Spirit_Kazan with 76 kills, followed by the Excalibur with 23. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 78 deaths, followed by Frostland with 16. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 80 kills and 1 deaths and a 80 KDR; Screech9791 with 16 kills, 8 deaths and a 2 KDR; and IdyllicDestroyer with 10 kills, 12 deaths, and a 0.83 KDR. They have unlocked an exclusive ship in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! A1: Of course. Ground vehicles will likely have a similar targeting system to space, but similarly it will eventually hide players you can't physically see. Once we've patched the last few bugs in the current system, we'll start looking at upgrading it. There are a lot of things involving targeting that we're anxious to get around to, from making the icons pop in and out as they come into view, and possibly even a way to lose track on someone if they're hidden for too long. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 255th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic was still on vacation, so we have another guest-writer on board to give you an interesting and unique newsletter. The guest author this week is TheUnderseer, leader of the Onyx Hold. He's gonna write about rocks. Hello everyone, Im TheUnderseer, Chairman of the Onyx Hold. As a race of space-rock mining space-dwarves, our faction is well acquainted with the most common objects in the galaxy. I of course am talking about rocks. Our asteroid miner's union has crossed the galaxy, mining every type and species of rock imaginable, and in our travels, we've come across some really cool ones, so Im going to be talking about them today. Rocks. They're everywhere. Littering planets, floating around ominously in space, smashing into things that don't like getting smashed into. To some, rocks are a nuisance, only getting in the way or cluttering up the vast and beautiful void. But to others, rocks are the most beautiful things in the world. They come in all shapes and sizes, colors and sharpnesses, and sometimes most importantly, different values. Rocks arent just there to fill up your cargo hold with useless clutter. Sometimes rocks contain valuable gems hidden inside, called geodes. Dont just go throwing all your rocks out if they arent beautiful on the outside, sometimes their beauty is hidden within. But not all rocks are harmless. Besides hot rocks, which hurt because of their temperature, some rocks are toxic and are not to be eaten. Eating other kinds of rocks are fine. Not everything in life is safe, and often the most beautiful and most valuable rocks are the most dangerous to obtain. You might be asking, "If rocks are so great, what can I do with them?" The answer is simple, lots of things. Rocks are used in everyday life all the time. Besides looking pretty, rocks can be turned into useful tools, like diamond-tipped sawblades, used as non-scratch lenses on cameras, or melted down and turned into concrete to build your homes. Rocks are everywhere and there is no escape. I hope that this newsletter has given you a greater appreciation for the beautiful resources lying right below your feet. Without rocks, the world would literally not exist, and us with it. Take some time this week to appreciate a rock, pick one up, give it a sniff, maybe lick it - follow your heart. And if you need anyone to go collecting lots of rocks for you, remember the Onyx Hold is always available to help. --TheUnderseer, Chairman of the Onyx Hold Asteroid Miner's Union Thank you for that enlightening newsletter. Next week we should be back to our regularly scheduled programming, but if you've enjoyed these guest newsletters, let us know in the community discord, and we'll consider doing them more often. This week in the dogfight there were 55 kills, 2 with auto, 12 with beam, 4 with laser, 0 with plasma, 4 with railgun, and 33 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-1_Kazan with 29 kills, followed by the Iridium with 12. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 35 deaths, followed by Pillarum with 16. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 34 kills and 6 deaths and a 5.66 KDR; TheUnderseer with 12 kills, 0 deaths and a NaN KDR; and devOmegax with 9 kills, 5 deaths, and a 1.8 KDR. Ejecting Engines? A1: Modules are very open-ended right now, but not in that vein. They should focus on stat bonuses and penalties to better customize your specific ship to your style. Need a bit more firepower? Fit an armament module that gives +2 armament, but lose a bit of shield to compensate. There are approximately 15 stats on each fighter we can individually control, so modules could theoretically granularly effect these stats better than the submission points system does. Ideas pitched in the discord included: Advanced Composite Ailerons: +20 pitch/yaw or Omnidirectional Gravitation Jets: +15 strafe. There is certainly a lot we can do with modules to help players refine base ship models to their particular playstyle, but not so much that it completely revolutionizes how a fighter performs.
