Hello everyone! Welcome to the 210th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. Idyllic has returned from his family road trip and gotten right back to work on Capital ships and menus, this week hunting down several bugs with the menu and HUD systems, and re-adding conventional turrets to the ship code. A big milestone achieved in the short development time this week was the completion of code that installs a default loadout onto your default capital ship, so that if a new player is selected as the Juggernaut, they don't end up in the unfortunate situation of not having any turrets to shoot back with. A bit of a bug cropped up with reload visualizations so that they stopped updating. After delving through the code, the problem has been found and rectified, so now you can shoot your Capital Conventional turrets to your heart's content. It was a short week, but next week will be right back to the development grind. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 339 kills, 114 with beam, 103 with torpedo, 74 with laser, 26 with plasma, 13 with railgun, and 9 with auto. The most dangerous ship was the Excalibur, with all 186 kills. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 321 deaths, followed by The Great Hollow with 24. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 99 kills and 18 deaths and a 5.5 KDR; RookVanguard with 80 kills, 23 deaths and a 3.47 KDR; and IdyllicDestroyer with 68 kills, 31 deaths, and a 2.19 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Stratus Sprite in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 54) Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. A1: Those sound an awful lot like torpedoes. Q2: How will miners work? Laser or drills? A2: Our early plans are for mining lasers in turret form attached to mining ships, but there is potential for other unique methods in the future. Imagine a large mining ship gobbling down whole asteroids. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 209th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic has continued to tweak and tinker with the Capital menu code, with a few successful milestones. The code has been straightened out to allow loadout editing for both Fighters and Capitals, and the turrets now display correctly by ship type. A few things seen in the above gif still require work before they're ready for release, including the loadout capacity visualizer, and the new and improved turret-selection system. But we're slowly and steadily checking features off of our list. We're making good progress on these very complicated features, and should be able to release a test version for our community to help debug soon. It is nearly time to perfect the Capital-Fighter combat experience. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. This week in the dogfight there were 40 kills, 18 with torpedos, 15 with beam, 4 with plasma, 3 with laser, 0 with auto, and 0 with railgun. The most dangerous ship was the Excalibur, with all 40 kills. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 64 deaths, followed by Ecumenopolis with 9. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were RookVanguard, with 22 kills and 5 deaths and a 4.4 KDR; Ninqax with 13 kills, 9 deaths and a 1.44 KDR; and greenjellypea with 2 kills, 5 deaths, and a .4 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Stratus Sprite in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! A1: Fighters are rather small for spacecraft in general, as mining, cargo and transport ships of the 'same' size class will be much larger by default, because of the cargo they have to carry. Q2: Will subfactions be able to build Capitals? A2: Up to Medium Capitals will be able to be constructed at Outpost shipyard modules, which are the largest structures a subfaction could conceivably build. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 208th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic has continued to work out the kinks preventing the deployment of Capitals to the Dogfight Alpha, making good progress on editing the code to support the new features such ships will add to the game. Adding the ability to edit Capital ships using the same menus as the fighters was a relatively straightforward task, however, they were not designed to allow editing of two ships simultaneously - your currently selected Fighter, and your currently selected Capital. Editing either sets the ship and it's turrets to the current, rather than working in parallel. This required a significant amount of work to correct, to be able to save the latest edits to a Capital ship, but not overwrite the edits to your current fighter. The work on these edits is ongoing, but we are optimistic about their success. Capital ships will be flying through the skies in no time. The new dogfight gamemodes saw their first larger-scale test in this week's community dogfight, where we found a few bugs, fixed a few others, and overall had a great time. The new elimination and killerball gamemodes were particularly successful, including the killer-spectate mode. Though not yet perfect, they are working well enough to stay in the gamemode rotation. Here are a few shots of me spectating the ship that killed me. It has not escaped our notice that this newsletter is, in fact, the 4-year mark of this great project. From our humble beginnings we've come quite a long way, and we're going to take a bit of time to review where we've been, while we continue to work towards the future of RoVerse. We now travel back to the far-off year of 2016! In the beginning, there was a map. A map, and a dream. A dream of an expansive galaxy in which the plethora of Sci-fi clans could participate. They could capture territory, and build structures, and dominate the galaxy. It started with a space station... ...and a spaceship. Structures were built, and more and more ships were added to the collection. A dogfight was created to showcase the ship mechanics, and act as a proving ground for all the features we wanted to include. We thought bigger, creating whole planets to invade and conquer. And vehicles with which to do the conquering. Systems were generated and regenerated. Features were added, things that made the experience better. Planets went amazing places. And ships became customizable. The dogfight expanded, with new maps and new ships - contributed by our amazing community. Things changed colors. And structures at long last were built. And the station, once nearly empty yet full of potential, came to life. Home to every player who has flown across the skies of RoVerse. We've certainly come a long way, and we are as dedicated as ever to continuing to bring this project to life. We want to thank everyone who has helped us get to where we are today, and we hope that they will continue to join us as we move forward on this highly ambitious, but definitely achievable goal. See you in the stars, pilots! The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 165 kills, 98 with beam, 29 with plasma, 18 with railgun, 11 with auto, 9 with laser, and 0 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Excalibur, with 49 kills, followed by the Iridium with 38. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 114 deaths, followed by Classic with 29. A1: What you're describing sounds an awful lot like a surface-bound version of a small Capital, which wouldn't be all that useful. No, helipads will be built on the surface and be designed to land ships coming in from space, not move those ships across the planet's surface. Q2: Will you be able to sell a construction kit for your ship? A2: Yep! Our blueprint system will allow ship designers to sell their ship designs, without having to deal with a large-scale manufacturing system to produce them. However, if they happened to run an organization that sold pre-built ships, their might be a premium on their designs. Q3: Can we steal blueprints? A3: Yep! Blueprints can be raided from ship inventories, or station rubble, which gives any player access to contraband ships, if they're in the right place at the right time. Battlefield salvage could be very lucrative. Q4: What is the RoVerse explanation for respawning? A4: We have decided that it would be much more interesting for factions to put forward their own lore regarding the mysterious process by which players reappear after they die, be it high-technology or something more mystical. Q5: Can I play without being in a faction? A5: Of course! RoVerse is open to all, however, some of the bigger-scale activities like galaxy-conquering and station-building will be out of reach for the solo player. But that doesn't mean there won't be plenty to do for those who wish to strike out on their own. You can mine, trade, go on quests, hunt bounties, upgrade your ships, all in the name of adventure! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 207th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic spent some time testing the new gamemodes, particularly the recently-merged Outpost Strike gamemode and found quite a few bugs to patch, while also continuing coding the menu system that will be used to select Capital ships. We wont bore you with the details of the bugs we found, but instead focus on the Capital ships, since they provide better pictures. The player datastore has been upgraded to now save your currently selected Capital ship - the ship you will deploy in if the gamemode supports Capitals, or you have been selected for a special role in a gamemode. The retrofitted menu system now supports an 'edit capital' mode, where only Capital ships are in the available list as you scroll through, rather than the way we have been selecting them so far, which is putting them right in the fighter sort. Stats for these ships will be worked out shortly, and their descriptions completed, giving the player the full picture of the ship they are about to purchase. A new faction ship has joined the roster, this one custom-designed for speed. The Akatana Sergal will be tearing through the skies in the new Gatecrash gamemode. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. It was a quiet week in the dogfight, there were 59 kills, 39 with beam, 11 with plasma, 9 with laser, 0 with railgun, 0 with auto, and 0 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Hayabusa III, with 30 kills, followed by the Iridium with 20. The most dangerous map was Frostland with 21 deaths, followed by Ecumenopolis with 18. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 30 kills and 17 deaths and a 1.76 KDR; IdyllicDestroyer with 20 kills, 20 deaths and a 1 KDR; and Fortune_Volkov with 8 kill, 11 deaths, and a 0.72 KDR.
