Hello everyone! Welcome to the 245th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we can keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Hyperion has installed a brand-new cargo transportation system that makes shipping goods across the station a breeze. Idyllic is knee-deep in merging the dogfight with the Capital Update branch, and is making great progress. Back in August, we made a branch copy of the Dogfight, to begin to fully devote our efforts to bringing the Capital Update to life. At that point, we had been working on Capital mechanics for quite a while, but at that point they became too much to handle while keeping the Dogfight playable. This branch held everything we've added and changed, from mechanics to menus to maps. During this time, changes were also made to the original Dogfight, that need to be merged back in. Changes to code, like radar and and filters, new objects, like all the new faction ships, new maps, and outpost modules, have to be synced. So far, all of the physical assets have been merged, by far the easier task. Merging the code will be a more difficult, but not impossible task. We have plans for a custom versioning system to make the task easier in the future, but hopefully this task will only be necessary with significant content updates, which the Capital Update will be the last of for the Dogfight, as the next major steps will all involve Freeroam. A versioning system will likely still be just as useful during that Phase as well. And now, for the things you can take pictures of: Hyperion Station has had a walking problem for quite some time. As more portions of the ring have opened to visitors, the distance you have to walk to visit everywhere has vastly increased. With that in mind, we have developed a cargo transportation system to quickly move cargo across the station at incredible speeds. Station management wants visitors to be aware that they are not responsible for anything besides cargo that winds up in the cargo transport tubes and may become damaged in transit. Stop by and try shipping some cargo across the station today! The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 9am and 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 343 kills, 71 with auto, 0 with beam, 19 with laser, 8 with plasma, 8 with railgun, and 237 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the VSa1-2_Spirit_Kazan with 104 kills, followed by the Chariot with 68. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 125 deaths, followed by Pillarum with 117. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 222 kills and 15 deaths and a 14.8 KDR; devOmegax with 79 kills, 12 deaths and a 6.58 KDR; and IdyllicDestroyer with 27 kills, 51 deaths, and a 0.52 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Nihilos Tephra in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 89) Calexian Community Challenge Before the end of cycle 12, the community must strive to complete the following two challenges to unlock a Calexian ship for all to use. KOTH points are going well, but we've fallen behind on Outpost clears. We better get cracking on that pirate invasion if we want to complete the challenge. The challenges are: 5000 KOTH capture points, and 50 Perfect rounds of Outpost Strike. Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. Be sure to join if you have any questions about RoVerse: ROBLOX Group: https://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=2948290 Discord server: https://discord.gg/npxBGwJ Q1: Will mining power levels be a thing? A1: That could be a fun feature down the line, our first set of minerals should all be minable right away, but if we ever add unique or extremely rare materials, we could gatekeep them with mining tech. That would certainly make mining corps more valuable, if they spec all into mining and have those tech upgrades unlocked faster, it would be worth it to hire them for jobs. Q2: Will you be able to bounce people into jumpgates to kick them out of a system? A2: Though this question is nearly asking about ramming, we'll answer it anyway. Bumping into people is a very delicate process, and likely won't be successful in any sort of combat situation. But if someone goes extremely AFK, I don't see any mechanics planned that would stop you from launching them through a wormhole and into another star system, to their extreme confusion when they return. Q3: Will there be mesh deformation on ships to show collision damage or heavy explosions? A3: That could be an interesting detail to develop down the line. We will be meshing Capital ships, so the option is open to add a few bones during that process for deformation. We'll look into it. Q4: How tall can base buildings be? Can they go to space? A4: We have a concept HQ at Daedalus Rex this is the approximate size we want the biggest building to be, but we'll have finalized measurements when we're much closer to the planetary update. The HQ is supposed to be an identifying landmark for important faction bases, and thus has the most important functions built in. We started with smaller buildings about the scale of a house, but it just didn't make the base feel important enough. So having enough size is important, but not to space big. Q5: Will we be able to run people over with ground vehicles? A5: Definitely. Not everything requires shooting people to kill them, sometimes just driving at high speed into them is enough. With fighters, ramming didn't make much sense because they're on a level playing field with each other - fighter vs fighter. On the surface, a vehicle should be deadly to a person on foot, if they aren't paying attention or can't get out of the way. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 244th issue of the RoVerse development newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, Idyllic at long last has finished patching all the problems that we know of with turret class weapon switching, including error messages when the loadout is over-encumbered, and custom faction fighter turrets have been begun. Turret classes have long been a thorn in Idyllic's side, causing problem after problem when equipped on ships. The wrong models were being attached, turrets were facing the wrong way, the wrong turrets were being mounted when deployed, turrets were overlapping, and loadouts were exceeding the maximum allowed without erroring. But each of those issues have been tracked down to the source, and remedied, each turret of the heavier classes has been re-rigged and verified to be working, turret loadout maximums have been enforced, mounting directions have been rectified, the correct models for each weapon of each class has been ensured. With that, the Capital Update is nearly complete. There are yet a few things to clean up, but we'll keep the community apprised of everything. Here are a few gifs of the testing process with the higher-weight turrets. First up is an improperly rigged turret getting stuck at the origin instead of welded to the ship. Heavy Plasma working correctly. and the heavy laser turret working after being re-rigged. A long time ago, we demoed custom faction turrets. However, they were only on faction Capitals, not fighters. With the work Idyllic was doing with turret classes, they were well-equipped to upgrade the system to add custom faction turrets to faction ships. And Akatana had helpfully provided a set of faction turrets to test out. The system checks for a faction version of the specific turret mounted, so factions do not need to provide turrets for all specific types right away. Right now, we only plan on supporting a single line of turrets per faction, so make sure they look ok with all the faction ships you submit. The faction portion of Hyperion is coming along nicely, with a new set of windows that don't interfere with the faction stall area, and are completely and entirely air-tight, which is a significant improvement over the previous. A1: We'd certainly consider it. Right now, the Roblox VR situation is actually not that great, and getting things working is quite a time sink, but things should improve in the future, as VR becomes more widely available to the average player. Perhaps someday you can pilot your fighter from inside the cockpit directly, and challenge others for supremacy of the skies. Q2: Could a species without legs have moving wings? A2: We can certainly support unique idle character animations like flapping wings, shouldn't be an issue at all. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 243rd issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, 4 factions have submitted the first faction stalls to be added to Hyperion, and Idyllic has been working on a secret project, and tweaking the target lock system to display allies all the time. First up, the 4 faction stalls. Here we have the first version of the Cysov Stall, that is already undergoing renovation based on what worked and what didn't work with the first version. The Onyx Hold stall, which will likely be getting a visit from station Health and Safety for working with molten metal in a public space. The Osiris Corp Stall, with a unique round shape. And the House of Akatana Stall, with gift shop. These stalls will be opening shortly in a new segment of the Hyperion Station ring, as soon as construction is finished and the sector is re-pressurized. And now, a series of contextless images and gifs that relate to what Idyllic worked on, but don't give anything away. A1: We can probably do that. We should be able to list the names of player ranks on a playerlist somewhere, while on radar and on screen we could put a little rank icon. Members of the same group should be able to recognize the ranks of their commanders, and perceptive enemies might be able to direct their fire. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 242nd issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, we have another peek at another new map coming soon to the Dogfight, this time a Faction-made map, there are new faction fighters, and we have added a new type of outpost to the Outpost strike gamemode. Azur Incursion takes place at the mouth of a Cysov Superstation that has created a portal to their home galaxy. Dodge and dive between the rocks being pulled into the gaping maw of the structure, while fighting off any other ships in the vicinity. This map will work with most Free-For-All gamemodes, as well as KOTH. !!! ALERT !!! We have received an emergency broadcast from beleaguered civilian craft in the area of the dogfight. It appears that a Pirate Outpost has appeared, and is making their journeys across the stars more difficult. It is time to band together and destroy their defenses, and kick them out of civilized space once more. The Pirate Outpost is less well-armed than the Military Outpost, but their turrets are placed sporadically and chaotically, which makes them more difficult to destroy in one single bombing run. In addition to adding the new Outpost type, we have refined the hitbox detection system when generating Outposts, which should now prevent turrets from clipping inside asteroids and other debris around them in the different maps. Our original system only considered self-intersection when placing modules, but now it can detect anything else that might get in the way. There are two new faction ships in the dogfight this week: The Akatanan MAs3-2V Dai Washi: and a Tenebruzian SSa2-1 TM: The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. A1: Turret sizes are location independent. Any size turret can be put on any mount, as long as the total adds up to less than the total ship armament capacity. When it comes to turret type variants, like fixed vs gimbal turrets, those will be specific per-mount.
