Hello everyone! Welcome to the 228th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week Idyllic returned focus to coding and creating UI elements necessary for ship editing, creating a slew of weapon icons for our current and future weapon type plans, and coding the system to work with the original turret editing code. Two weeks ago, we demoed a basic version of the menu, with a simple selection system that used border pixels, and had letters standing in for each weapon type. That has been further developed into a fancy icon system with glowing selection highlights making it easy to tell at a glance which weapon type is which, and which one is selected. We'll be releasing the wider variety of weapons over time as we complete them, but having an extensive catalog of interesting weapon types is one of our highest goals. If you have any ideas for cool weapon ideas, drop us a suggestion in the discord, and it might end up the most dangerous weapon in the galaxy. Further developments to come include greying out turrets that have not yet been purchased for the current ship, a few more icons for turrets that aren't complete, icons for the turret weight class menus, and the all-important part - making the turret display update as you click the buttons. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 1pm and 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 114 kills, 16 with auto, 14 with beam, 11 with laser, 11 with plasma, 48 with railgun, and 14 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Excalibur with 69 kills, followed by the Hayabusa_III with 15. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 36 deaths, followed by Classic with 33. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 29 kills and 4 deaths and a 7.25 KDR; ObscureVisage with 10 kills, 4 deaths and a 2.5 KDR; and VerrucktScientist with 8 kills, 5 deaths, and a 1.6 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Nihilos Asterus in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 72) Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. A1: Factory modules of outposts are where ore is refined into raw materials to be used for construction, or the creation of more advanced materials. This also happens at a larger scale in faction stations, especially in the dedicated refinery station type. You can support us by joining our Community Group or Discord server! Hello everyone! Welcome to the 227th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week, the new and improved 360° turret aiming code has been integrated with ship systems, allowing pilots of Capital ships to aim their turrets at everything around them; there was also a quality of life update added to the dogfight gamemode system, and we have a new ship for the 11th cycle. Lets get started! So it turns out what Idyllic thought was nearly-completed turret code last week, had a few remaining flaws that needed ironing out. It worked fine on a level plane, but as soon as you starting throwing more angles into the mix, or moving the turret away from the origin, things went a bit mad. The aim would start jumping around as it approached 180° behind you, and straight ahead - so clearly the math wasn't quite right yet. But with a bit more tinkering around, and plenty of banding my head against my desk, the math was solved, dot products were eliminated, and the turrets were aimed properly. And the moment of truth - applying the new code to the existing turret systems. After one false start with a math error, we were successful in implementing the new code. Turrets how have the full range of motion that they have always been intended to have. A truly dangerous force to be reckoned with in the RoVerse Galaxy. On the dogfight front, gamemodes are now prerolled at the beginning of intermission, giving you time to prepare for the upcoming battle, by selecting the proper ship, or editing the weapon loadout. A new cycle has begun, and that means a new exclusive reward ship. This cycle's exclusive reward comes from the Nihilos Corporation, and is called the Asterus. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. This week in the dogfight there were 422 kills, 60 with auto, 37 with beam, 4 with laser, 16 with plasma, 12 with railgun, and 293 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Evoker with 162 kills, followed by the Excalibur with 60. The most dangerous map was The_Great_Hollow with 210 deaths, followed by Blue_Spaceway with 133. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were FangABXY, with 191 kills and 17 deaths and a 11.23 KDR; devOmegax with 61 kills, 8 deaths and a 7.62 KDR; and CptJaller with 53 kills, 33 deaths, and a 1.6 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Nihilos Asterus in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! A1: Nope. That would be excessively immersive, even for us. Plates are just used during the generation process to create rifts and convergences, and make more realistic mountain ranges. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 226th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week was an important one, as Idyllic tackled one of the last major hurdles remaining with Capital ship turrets. There has been a math problem for some time, that had yet to be solved - turrets only worked for targets in front of them, limiting their view to 180. As you can see above, if a target moved behind the turret, the angle would start decreasing, instead of following the target all the way around. This just wouldn't do. Turrets need to be able to shoot at everything that is attacking a Capital, not just what is in front of it. So Idyllic did his research, hunting down strange and exotic formulas, and used them to solve the turret problem. Turrets can now freely rotate around their own horizontal axis, regardless of which direction that horizontal axis is facing. Dot products and Cross products saved the day! Turret elevation is still a work in progress, but we'll have that math hammered out in no time. The RoVerse Hallows Eve 2020 Event has wrapped up, and thanks to your hard work and dedication, the mysterious forces attacking Hyperion station have been repelled. I predict they will not be too happy about that, and may start planning their next move sometime soon. Thanks again to ObscureVisage and Alcertaz for making the event entertaining. This week in the dogfight there were 357 kills, 80 with auto, 0 with beam, 14 with laser, 45 with plasma, 21 with railgun, and 197 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Koguun with 109 kills, followed by the Evoker with 105. The most dangerous map was Blue_Spaceway with 174 deaths, followed by The_Great_Hollow with 130. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... The three players that topped the leaderboard were CptJaller, with 166 kills and 12 deaths and a 13.83 KDR; FangABXY with 110 kills, 14 deaths and a 7.85 KDR; and devOmegax with 51 kills, 16 deaths, and a 3.18 KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Elysion Kokytos in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Week 70) Now, for the overall cycle stats! Pillarum was the most dangerous map, with 1079 kills, followed by The Great Hollow with 320, and Blue Spaceway with 264. The top ship was the Koguun, with 320 kills, followed by the Excalibur with 221, and the Lethe with 178. The top weapon was the Torpedo, with 850 kills, followed by Plasma with 207, and Laser with 150. Auto marked up to 146, Beam with 93, and Railgun with 89. Overall, 31 pilots participated this cycle and earned at least one kill, while 70 players died at least once. The lowest KDR belongs to Isalanctos with a .18 KDR. The dogfight has seen 6,431 visits, with an 82% approval rating (138-29) and 333 favorites. This cycle there were 1,535 kills total. Topping off this cycle's leaderboard was CptJaller, with 440 kills, 28 deaths, and a 15.71 KDR. He was followed by FangABXY with 346 kills, 45 deaths, and a 7.68 KDR, and IdyllicDestroyer with 293 kills, 93 Deaths, and 3.15 KDR. These three pilots have unlocked the exclusive Golden Kokytos Skin, coming soon to a dogfight near you. If you'd like to check out the rest of our data, you can find the spreadsheet here: Phase 1 Data (Championship Series 10) And as we do every cycle, here are the cumulative weapon usage stats. Torpedoes have definitely made a comeback, dominating over half the kills each week, but that's no surprise with their effectiveness against the Outpost. And speaking of the Outpost, we've put together some charts of how it has fared against players. A few weeks it has notched an impressive KDR, like Week 30 where it went 243-0, but it has been creeping back up over the past 20 weeks. Each week we compile a Q&A section here whenever there are any new questions posted on the RoVerse Community group wall or in the Community Discord Server. Be sure to join if you have any questions about RoVerse: ROBLOX Group: https://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=2948290 Discord server: https://discord.gg/npxBGwJ Q1: Will there be NPC Bounties, where you hunt down an npc instead of a player? A1: Most bounties will involve actual players or player-built structures, and since there won't be npc ships, there's really no way to have you hunt down npc players in space. However, we might be able to implement npcs on planets, but we'll have to consider that again sometime closer to planets being completed. Q2: Why does Idyllic keep making reward ships interceptors? A2: I guess he just prefers fast armored ships over fast tissue paper ones. That, and it helps add a bit of variety when all ships aren't max-speed max-agility. Hello everyone! Welcome to the 225th issue of the RoVerse Development Newsletter, where we keep you updated on the progress we've made over the past week. This week is finally over. After what felt like the longest Tuesday of anyone's life, things wrapped up and we can now move forward. With that in mind, Idyllic spent the week working on UI and menus, and important part of an upcoming Dogfight Update that have been on the back burner for a while. We have conceptualized the new turret modification menus, that will allow us to support as many turret types as we can fit on screen. Rather than having a list of turrets crushed into the middle of the screen, the menu is now located off to the left, and lists the 8 turret 'categories' - the weapons you are already familiar with - and a new menu for selecting different variants. For example, Laser turrets will come in a Standard, Trinity, and Perdition subtypes, which each do slightly different attacks, but still in the laser genre. We're also working on icons for each of these weapons - don't worry, they won't just be letters that you have to memorize. We also plan to update the description while you hover over a turret option, to describe the weapon you are about to select. And of course, these menus will also allow you to select the turret size class you want, rounding out the new menus needed for all the new mechanics coming to the dogfight. This is your last week to complete the Hallows Eve 2020 Quest and earn the two exclusive reward ships! The Evoker and the Gospel have made their appearance in the Dogfight as well, all you need is the quest badges. Take these two ships out for a spin this week, before the Hallows Eve map returns to the darkness from whence it came. The community dogfight continued again this week, with members of the community coming together to blast each other out of the sky. Here are a selection of screenshots from the event - send in your own if you have them. Join us next week at 1pm and 8pm EST and earn double credits for the duration. This week in the dogfight there were 365 kills, 2 with auto, 30 with beam, 0 with laser, 71 with plasma, 39 with railgun, and 223 with torpedo. The most dangerous ship was the Koguun with 174 kills, followed by the Lethe with 55. The most dangerous map was Pillarum with 198 deaths, followed by The_Great_Hollow with 145. The three players that topped the leaderboard were CptJaller, with 226 kills and 13 deaths and a 17.38 KDR; IdyllicDestroyer with 76 kills, 18 deaths and a 4.22 KDR; and CandyCobalt with 41 kills, 0 deaths, and a inf KDR. They have unlocked the exclusive ship Elysion Kokytos in the Alpha Dogfight. Nice work pilots! A1: You can certainly put outposts and ships in orbit and shoot anything that moves. How effective that is, remains to be seen. Q2: Will you ever need to bring a bounty in alive? A2: We considered this idea quite a while ago, but there are too many problems that crop up when trying to control other players. If they just log off, there ends up being a lot of work we'd have to do to fix that - we considered creating an AI player, but that gets messy quick, or just jailing them immediately, but then that removes half the point of capturing someone. In the end, chasing down someone's ship and blowing them out of the sky is much easier, and much more effective than spaceship handcuffs, and likely more fun for everyone involved.
